Revise and Submit Workshop
Revise and Submit Workshop
I’ve been teaching for years and many of my students have dozens and sometimes hundreds of drafted pieces. What would it take to revise those essays, stories, and poems and ready them for publication?
This May, I’ll offer a weekly workshop to specifically support folks revising pieces.
At the end of the month, we’ll gather, raise a glass, and send our finished work into the world.
I’ll only accept up to 8 students. Each week, we’ll briefly review one revision technique (5-10 minutes) and then we’ll gently workshop up to 4 writers’ pages.
This is meant to be a LOW-LIFT workshop.
NO reading anyone’s work ahead of time.
NO writing comments for anyone’s work outside of class.
NO piling onto anyone’s pieces.
Instead, writers will have 20 minutes to present a short piece (or an excerpt of no more than 3 pages), and in real time, folks will highlight what they love and what’s working. When writers see what readers adore, they’ll be able to revise and reimagine slow spots.
Along the way, I’ll share a curated list of literary magazines and journals that might be a good fit for these pieces.
Meeting times: 3 Mondays + 1 Tuesday (working around Memorial Day) + 1 Saturday
Revision Workshops — May 4, May 11, May 18, May 26 — 7-8:30pm
Submission Fest — Sat. May 30 — noon-1
